Australian centre makes firefighting a priority with work on detection and water bombing
Researchers at the Australian National University’s recently established Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions are developing plans for a fleet of firefighting drones to be deployed across south-east Australia.
At an online event run by the institute on 25 May, researchers outlined their work on early detection of fires and ways to fight them, including a proposal for “water gliders” that would bomb hard-to-reach fires with a fine mist.
