Australian universities’ R&D spending hits A$14bn

Health and medical sciences drive research spending increase, but share of economy slips

Spending on R&D at Australia’s universities has increased in absolute terms but has fallen as a proportion of economic activity, according to new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

In a 3 May report, the bureau said there had been a 10 per cent increase in R&D spending at higher education institutions since 2020.
