EU ministers want to cut research in 2012 budget

The Council of EU Ministers has requested a €563-million decrease in research payments, compared to the 2012 draft budget proposed by the Commission in April.

In their conclusions adopted on 25 July, finance ministers asked for an overall freeze of the 2012 EU budget, with a 2-per-cent increase matching almost exactly the forecasted inflation rate.
