Fisheries reforms bring more research duties for member states

Changes to scientific advisory bodies and more research duties for member states are among European Commission proposals for reforming the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy. The proposals, released on 13 July, say that to counter the serious threat of over-fishing to Europe’s fishing industry and marine ecosystems, fisheries management must be based on “sound scientific advice” and must aim to remove overlaps in the work of different scientific advisory bodies.
