Greek scientists are warning that their country’s financial crisis threatens to cause lasting damage to its main scientific institutions, Nature News reported on 4 July.
Last week, the Greek government agreed to implement further austerity measures in order to obtain another international bail-out for its crippled economy. Scientists were already facing tough times at the time of Greece’s first bail-out request in April 2010. Their take-home pay, which was cut by 10 per cent last March, will now shrink by at least another 10 per cent under the new austerity programme.
