European Patent Office advisers set priorities

The European Patent Office’s newly created advisory board will study patent fees, patent quality and overlapping patent rights, it was decided at its first meeting.

The office’s Economic and Scientific Advisory Board has chosen to focus on the role and structure of patent fees; the importance of patent quality; and challenges to the patent system from overlapping sets of patent rights, called patent thickets.
