Poland makes low budget bid to create ‘elites’

Poland’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education has launched an initiative to raise six research centres to internationally excellent status on just 10 million zloty (€2.3m) a year each.

University departments or consortia of collaborating institutions have until 9 March to apply to become Leading National Research Centres, known by the Polish acronym KNOWs.
