… as research escapes cuts in France

France’s Ministry for Higher Education and Research has been allocated a 2.2 per cent budget increase, making it one of the few French ministries to escape cuts in 2013.

Provided the parliament agrees, the department will have a budget of €22.95 billion in 2013, an increase of €500 million on last year’s total. Though support for undergraduates is the main focus of the ministry’s plans for the money, research has escaped major cuts and will receive a 1.2 per cent increase, bringing the total budget for this area to €7.86bn.
