Commission wants to boost access to genetic resources

The European Commission has introduced a regulation to manage researchers’ access to organisms around the world, while also protecting the rights of the communities where these resources are found.

The regulation covers access to genetic resources and traditional knowledge of indigenous communities, and seeks to protect their rights to a share in any benefits that result from research done on these resources.
