Cyprus has become an associate member of Cern, the Switzerland-based particle physics laboratory, as a step towards full membership of the organisation.
An agreement was signed between Cern director-general, Rolf Heuer, and the minister of education and culture of Cyprus, George Demosthenous, on 5 October.
