Potocnik call to ‘reward’ policy-relevant research

Scientific research that is performed to support policy decisions should be better rewarded, commissioner for the environment Janez Potocnik said in an article for the newsletter of the European Commission’s Joint Research Council. Potocnik wrote that the EU needs more such research, but that it does not always offer rewards to researchers, in terms of publications or patents: “The lack of reward mechanisms consequently attracts less interest and investment. I am very much aware that we need to look more closely at ways of rewarding such research.”
