Academics and EU officials met in Brussels on Monday (12 November) to discuss the importance of social science and the humanities in addressing Europe’s societal challenges.
The event, organised by the League of European Research Universities (Leru) and Danish member of the European parliament Britta Thomsen, included presentations from Thomsen; Robert-Jan Smits, director of the European Commission’s directorate general on research and innovation; Wim van den Doel, dean of humanities at Universiteit Leiden; and Wiljan van den Akker, dean of Humanities at Universiteit Utrecht.
