Dalli begins legal case against Swedish Match

The former health commissioner for the EU, John Dalli, has launched a case in a Brussels court against the tobacco manufacturer Swedish Match, according to the newspaper New Europe.

The daily newspaper reports that Dalli is suing for defamation, on the basis that Swedish Match issued allegations saying he was open to bribery. According to New Europe, Dalli denies reports that he met with a consultant engaged by Swedish Match on 10 February to talk about tobacco legislation.
