Italian scientists oppose plans for performance assessment

The Italian government is pressing ahead with plans to review the work of individual scientists and institutions despite significant opposition to the idea, according to the online blog ScienceInsider.

The National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (Anvur) has launched a system to give individual researchers a government stamp of approval based on set criteria, ScienceInsider writes.
