EU ministers allocated €10 billion for space research programmes at the European Space Agency’s ministerial council meeting near Naples, Italy, last month. This was less than the €12bn requested by ESA’s director general Jean-Jaques Dordain in an October speech to the Interparliamentary Space Conference. ESA’s 20 member states and Canada attended the meeting.
