Commission tightens regulation after breast implant scandal

The European Commission plans to tighten the surveillance of medical devices after a scandal involving faulty breast implants.

This will be done within the existing legal framework at first; measures could include more surprise inspections and additional testing of marketed products. In addition, the Commission is carrying out a “stress test” of the EU legislation before revising it.
