France’s socialists pledge ‘real autonomy’ for universities

François Hollande, the Socialist Party’s candidate in France’s presidential election later this year, says he would make universities truly autonomous, if elected.

Hollande has published a 60-point plan for his presidency, including pledges to revise the 2007 law on the freedom and responsibilities of universities and to introduce a “more collegiate and democratic” university governance structure.
