UK turns to France for nuclear expertise

The UK and France are set to collaborate on building the UK’s next generation of nuclear reactors, as part of an agreement signed in Paris on 17 February by UK prime minister David Cameron and France’s president Nicolas Sarkozy. Under the plans French company Areva will build the UK’s new reactors, to be operated by France’s energy firm EDF. Meanwhile UK company Rolls Royce will install the technology and manufacture components.
