Writer’s block
The Commission is known to regular readers of these pages for its occasionally flamboyant speech writing. But quite what was Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, the research commissioner, thinking when she read an address to the Euroscience Open Forum entitled: Evidence of Intelligent Design in European Research Policy? We assume that Geoghegan-Quinn and her speechwriter are simply unfamiliar with the use of “intelligent design” as the euphemism du jour for creationism.
