European GM regulations need to be stricter, French agriculture minister Stéphane Le Foll said in an interview as he left the council of ministers meeting on 19 September.
His comments, reported on the FranceTVinfo website, refer to a two-year study carried out by a French research group that called into question the safety of a type of genetically modified maize, Monsanto’s herbicide-resistant NK603. The maize had previously been approved by the European Food Safety Agency.
