EU chemical regulations discourage chemical companies from innovation, according to Giorgio Squinzi, the president of the European chemical industry council (Cefic).
Squinzi referred specifically to the EU’s Regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (Reach). He said that according to a European Commission survey, 63 per cent of respondents thought that Reach could curb innovative research. He also said that for businesses, the costs associated with Reach are high and should be streamlined.
