France shows small growth in 2010 R&D spend

France’s national R&D spending was €44.6 billion in 2010, an increase of 1.7 per cent on 2009, figures published on 31 August show. The snapshot of education and research spending in 2010 shows that the growth was largely due to an increase in industry investments, which account for 63 per cent of the overall spend. R&D spending was just 2.2 per cent of GDP in 2010, despite EU-wide efforts to increase it to 3 per cent.
