The European Defence Agency and the European Commission hosted an event to show how military research can boost the economy of European regions.
The Commission has requested regional governments to plan so-called “smart specialisation strategies” by 2014. This means that EU funding for regional development will only be awarded if regions focus their policy efforts in select fields of research and innovation. The event’s organisers say that defence could be a good choice for some regions when building these strategies.
