‘Science not on trial’, says L’Aquila judge

The judge who sentenced six researchers and a government official following the 2009 earthquake in L’Aquila has said he convicted the individuals because the advice they provided was “vague, generic and ineffective”, reports The Guardian.

Judge Marco Billi published his reasons for jailing the seven individuals on Friday, in a 950-page document that emphasized the experts had not been sentenced for failing to predict the disaster. “‘Science’ is not being put on trial,” the judge wrote, reports the Guardian.
