Commission to monitor bioeconomy

The European Commission is to create a bioeconomy observatory, to track data on biotechnology and help develop the industry across Europe.

The observatory will gather economic and employment statistics, innovation indicators, and measures of productivity, social wellbeing and environmental quality, to determine the size of Europe’s bioeconomy and assess its performance across the continent, says the Commission. It is also intended to support the development of regional and national bioeconomy strategies.
