EU funds for Croatia must focus on innovation, says Commission

The European Commission wants to focus the spending of cohesion and regional development funds in Croatia on boosting the country’s competitiveness and innovation capacity. The call came in a position paper, which also warns that Croatia’s lagging economy makes international firms reluctant to invest in R&D there. Croatia is set to join the EU on 1 July.
