Europe needs to take advantage of the economic growth opportunities made available by the “big data revolution”, Neelie Kroes, commissioner for the digital agenda has said.
“At a time when Europe desperately needs growth, [big data] is exactly where we should be looking to create new jobs and new opportunities,” Kroes said, adding that the data market would be worth hundreds of billions of euros each year.
She said data is a “new oil” that won’t run dry. “It’s a fuel for innovation, powering and energising our economy,” she added.
