Minister calls visa dispute summit

Laurent Wauquiez, France’s minister for higher education and research, has called a summit in January to address an ongoing argument over international students.

Wauquiez will meet the heads of universities, grandes écoles and engineering schools to discuss the changes to visa rules that many say are causing highly-qualified international students to be refused the right to work in France after graduating.

They will be joined at the meeting by Claude Guéant, the interior and immigration minister, and Xavier Bertrand, minister for health and employment.

The ministers will present the criteria that are to be used to decide whether an immigrant has the right to work in France.
