Academy calls for scrapping of evaluation agency

The French Academy of Sciences has called for research evaluation agency AERES to be scrapped, in a report that argues that the research system needs urgent reform.

The academy says that the agency, introduced by the former centre-right government, is unpopular and that evaluations should instead be conducted by universities and research organisations.
