Franco-British push on joint military priorities

France and the UK are to identify 25 technologies that make up their shared priorities for defence by the end of the year.

The countries also plan to produce a roadmap for their joint defence research and technology programme, though no timeframe has been given for this effort.

The plans were announced on 17 February at a summit between President Nicolas Sarkozy and Prime Minister David Cameron, covering partnerships in defence and nuclear energy.

As reported in Research Europe Today, the deal includes significant steps on working together on the next generation of nuclear reactors and cooperation on nuclear R&D.

The meeting followed a summit in London in November, at which the two leaders signed treaties to start work on their partnership.
