France’s Institute for Research on Development, which focusses on the developing world, is well-placed to benefit from higher education and research reforms because it already operates in joint research units, according to Didier Hoffschir, scientific adviser for the directorate general on research and innovation.
He said that the IRD’s interdisciplinary research also sets a good example for reforms proposed by the Assises de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche, a review board set up by the Socialist government to improve university and research operations.
