Top award goes to anthropologist

The gold medal award of the French national centre for scientific research (CNRS) for 2012 has been awarded to anthropologist Philippe Descola.

Descola specialises in Amazonian cultures and how human societies relate to their natural environment. Since 2000 he has been a professor at the Collège de France, where he holds an anthropology chair and runs the social anthropology laboratory.
