French physicist awarded Niels Bohr Medal

Alain Aspect, a professor of physics at the Institut d'Optique Graduate School and the Ecole Polytechnique, has been awarded the Niels Bohr Medal for 2013 by the Danish Academy of Engineers.

Aspect is being recognised for his work in quantum optics and atomic physics, and on quantum entanglement in particular. His award was presented on 7 October.

The award, which was established in 1955, was given out just 10 times by 1982. Aspect is being honoured on the 100th anniversary of the publication of Bohr’s atomic model.
