France and Costa Rica expand cooperation

Cooperation in education and science was under discussion as the presidents of France and Costa Rica met this week.

French president François Hollande and Costa Rican president Laura Chinchilla met on 4 November in France and agreed to enhance their cooperation in higher education, in particular by promoting student exchanges. One objective is to double the number of students from Costa Rica studying in France by 2015.

Hollande and Chinchilla also agreed to work on making use of results obtained from cooperative research on tropical agriculture. They said there was an opportunity to build on research into plant diseases by the French centre for agricultural research for development, CIRAD, and the international centre for tropical agricultural research and higher education, CATIE.
