France increases support for regional start-ups

France’s secretary of state for digital affairs has chosen nine regions to be tech ecosystems where extra support will be provided for start-up companies.

Aix-Marseille, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Montpellier, Rennes and Toulouse are the regions where the French government will help to create the right environment for start-ups to thrive.

The secretary for digital affairs, Axelle Lemaire, will oversee support for the creation of projects, and help the regions to grow so that they can promote their start-ups internationally. Funding of €15 million will be provided by the PIA programme for future investments, and the government will provide a further €200m from 2015.
