A group representing most of France's research-intensive companies has spoken out in a row over the effectiveness of the country's CIR system of R&D tax credits.
R&D tax credits are vital for attracting and maintaining science and technology investment in the country, according to the ANRT, which represents mostly private and a few public research-focused companies.
In a statement on 20 May, the ANRT said that tax credits allowed French companies to better compete with their international counterparts. The system, the statement said, allowed companies to "compensate for the handicap of greater charges that French businesses have compared with their major international competitors”.
