A research centre dedicated to developing computerised systems for advanced engineering has been opened on the site of the growing Paris-Saclay mega-university.
Known as IMSIA, the institute of mechanics and industrial applications of science was formed from a merger of two existing laboratories. It will be run as a joint venture between the state-controlled energy company EDF, France’s commission for atomic and alternative energies CEA, France’s national research centre the CNRS, and the Paris-Saclay engineering school Ensta.
The institute has a hundred employees including 30 researchers from EDF. The compnay has plans to move other R&D staff over to the site at a later date.
