French brain drain could put holes in university pockets

The loss of France’s qualified young professionals to the United States and the UK may leave French higher education with a funding gap, a French government think tank has said.

The French Council of Economic Analysis (CAE), a think tank that advises the prime minister, published its report Preparing France for Growing International Talent Mobility on 17 May.

The report analysed figures published in 2015 by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, Insee, which estimated migration into and out of France between 2006 and 2013. It said that while immigration and emigration have been fairly evenly balanced during that time, things are not so balanced for highly qualified individuals.
