Cédric Villani, a mathematician-turned-MP, will oversee a project to update France’s artificial intelligence strategy less than six months after it was first published.
Mounir Mahjoubi, the secretary of state for digital affairs, told the weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on 3 September that Villani was in charge of a report that would “set out a strategy [for AI] for the next few years”.
Villani has been given three months to prepare the report, which would not necessarily “propose legislation or a raft of policy measures”, the newspaper reported.
