France’s top scientific learned society has pleaded with the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier to give the UK full participation in the EU’s next R&D programme, Horizon Europe.
The executive board of the French Académie des Sciences as well as six of its former presidents and three honorary senior members wrote a letter to “plead for a fair participation of the UK [in] the Framework programme Horizon Europe, subject to suitable financial adjustments”.
Cross-border collaboration is essential to progress in science, the authors said. Consequently, “all scientists participating [in an] EU research project should have to comply with the simplest possible procedures facilitating their travel to and from the UK at least during the period of cooperation”.
