French research to support Olympic effort

Scientists in France’s grandes écoles will be involved in a research programme designed to support French athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

The programme, which was launched by research minister Frédérique Vidal on 4 September, will be a collaboration between Insep, the national institute of sport; the CNRS, France’s largest public research organisation; and 11 grandes écoles.

Vidal said the goal is for the researchers to study the athletes in a wide range of sports and suggest how modifications of their technique could enhance their performance. The programme, called Sciences 2024, will comprise around 100 research projects and 500 student projects over its five-year course, Vidal said.
