France’s science budget is set to increase by €549 million in 2019, but university leaders and researchers have said this is not enough to meet the demands of a growing student population and an ageing workforce.
The government allocated €25.1 billion to the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in its 24 September budget proposal—a rise of €549m on 2018’s settlement.
The proposals “demonstrate the government’s strategy to invest in young people’s talents and to build capacity in R&D”, a government statement said.
