The French government has set up a committee to oversee the implementation of its plan to halve pesticide use by 2025.
On 10 April, six members of the French government—including research minister Frédérique Vidal, agriculture minister Didier Guillaume, ecology minister François de Rugy and health minister Agnès Buzyn—launched the Strategic Guidance and Monitoring Committee (COS) for plant-protection products.
This followed a government commitment to cut the use of the herbicide glyphosate and other such chemicals by 25 per cent by 2020, rising to 50 per cent by 2025, as part of its revamped EcoPhyto programme.
