Research partnership seeks to sustain French nuclear energy

                     

CNRS and nuclear-safety institute announce joint roadmap

France’s Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) and the CNRS, France’s largest public research organisation, have presented the strategy for their partnership agreed in November 2020.

The six-point strategy, released on 2 June, was announced with nuclear power increasingly a topic of political debate amid the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. France currently has 56 nuclear reactors and derives about 70 per cent of its power from nuclear energy.
