
National funder’s spending rose by €366 million in 2021
France’s National Research Agency, the ANR, spent more than €1 billion on research for the first time in its history in 2021, its annual report shows. Its total spending on research projects and scientific activity was listed as €1.15bn, an increase of €366 million compared with 2020 and €422m more than in 2019.
The spending reflects the agency’s increased budgetary allocation in 2021, when it was awarded €444m more than the previous year.
