University autonomy still burning issue, say presidents

                      

Call for greater autonomy comes as France stuck in lower-mid table in European ranking

France Universités, the association for university presidents, has called on the government to afford more freedom to higher education and research establishments to govern their own affairs.

The call follows the publication of the Autonomy Scorecard 2023 by the European University Association, in which France was judged to give less institutional independence to its universities than many or most other countries in several areas.
