French research agencies make green pledge

Main agencies signal commitment to do more—without adopting specific goals

France’s major research agencies have promised to draw up strategies for all their institutes and labs that take into account their social and environmental impacts.

The measure was one of ten in a joint agreement signed on 22 January by 16 French research agencies—among them the CNRS, France’s largest public research organisation, and the ANR, the national research funder.
