Government decree slashes 2024 higher education and research budget by €904 million

University leaders and researchers in France have condemned a government decree that cuts the 2024 budget for higher education and research by almost 3 per cent.

The decree, which was passed on 21 February and was not subject to parliamentary scrutiny, mandates a €10 billion reduction of government spending from the budget that was passed into law in December.
