France launches three sustainable agriculture research schemes

But ministers provide no detail on future of “paused” pesticide reduction plan

The French government has launched three previously announced research and innovation programmes on sustainable agriculture, but not set out the future of the EcoPhyto pesticide reduction plan, despite calls from researchers to reinstate it.

Ministers launched the three programmes during the International Agriculture Salon in Paris, which ended on 3 March without a widely expected government statement on EcoPhyto. The plan was “paused” by prime minister Gabriel Attal at the start of February during nationwide protests by farmers.
