Young researchers on poorly paid, temporary contracts are propping up an underfunded system, activists say

Around two-thirds of French university teaching jobs are held by staff on insecure temporary contracts, according to a report from the activist group Our Public Services.

The use of temporary contracts to fill teaching roles, which has grown considerably over recent years, heightens precarity for young researchers, degrades university teaching standards, and is ultimately a false economy, the group argued.
